Job Overview: The Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for managing and facilitating the loan application and approval process for commercial members of the credit union. This role requires a detailed understanding of commercial lending practices, strong analytical skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with business clients. They will be responsible for coordinating commercial banking activity within the Credit Union's branch network and will also perform various other functions as assigned by the Business Services Manager. Responsibilities: - Loan Origination: Actively seek out and identify new commercial lending opportunities. Assist potential borrowers in understanding loan options and the application process.
- Recommend loan structures and terms that minimize risk while meeting the needs of the borrower. Collaborate with the underwriting team to secure approval for loan applications.
- Portfolio Management: Monitor and manage a portfolio of commercial loans, ensuring timely repayments and addressing any issues that may arise. Monitor and manage loans up to 30 days past due. Identify potential risks.
- Credit Analysis: Perform thorough credit analysis and due diligence on loan applications.
- Evaluate financial statements, credit reports, business plans, and other relevant documentation to assess the creditworthiness of applicants.
- Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with commercial members, providing exceptional customer service and addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
- Compliance: Ensure all loan processes are conducted in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as ABNB’s policies and procedures.
- Identifies and refers cross-selling opportunities to appropriate business partners within the Credit Union.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills: - Three years to five years of similar or related experience. Experience in commercial loan
- originating is highly desired.
- Education (1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
- Interpersonal Skills Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
- Other Skills A minimum of three years experience with underwriting commercial loans and lending required.
- Knowledge and understanding of NCUA and other types of laws and regulations governing commercial/business lending practices as well as collection practices is desired.
- Working experience with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Sharepoint, Teams, and Outlook) is required.
- Strong decision-making/problem resolution skills.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with members and employees both in person, via email or by telephone. Must have the ability to build a network of commercial real estate referral sources, generate sales leads, and produce loans on own initiative.
- Ability to work collaboratively and autonomously in a fast paced environment. A valid drivers license and ability to commute between various locations to meet members.
- Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods of time. Ability to lift/carry up to 10 pounds.
