Volunteer Hampton Roads is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the next President and CEO. Selected by the Board of Directors, the President and CEO has the responsibility to carry out the mission and is responsible for the overall management and operation of the organization.

Volunteer Hampton Roads is a non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing and connecting individuals, businesses, and organizations to meet community needs through volunteerism for over 65 years. Our mission is to connect businesses and community organizations with volunteers to create a more engaged and resilient region. We collaborate with various stakeholders to address pressing social issues and create positive change in Hampton Roads.
Serving 17 localities in the region, Volunteer Hampton Roads’ commitment is to be the connector in engaging the community through service. We support our nonprofit members by enhancing their capacity and helping them achieve their missions. We collaborate with businesses across the region, promoting civic engagement, elevating corporate social responsibility, and fostering employee volunteerism. We provide valuable support through training, volunteer coordination, large-scale project management, and various programs, reinforcing our status as a local leader in nonprofit excellence.

In partnership with the Hampton Roads Chamber, a pro-business organization, we are committed to increasing regional corporate volunteerism. Additionally, we are proud members of the Points of Light Global Network, a robust network spanning 145 affiliates in 39 countries. This affiliation positions us within an innovative and widespread community of volunteer mobilizing organizations, enriching our efforts to make a lasting impact.
Position Overview
The President and CEO focuses on long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies routinely exercising discretion and independent judgment in the performance of job duties. The successful candidate is an innovative, energetic, and thoughtful leader who will build on the organization’s standard for excellence and provide strategic direction while embracing opportunities for new initiatives and entrepreneurial development. The President and CEO will execute the organization’s vision, put procedures and resources in place to promote scaling, optimize inefficient areas in the organization and drive the development and strategic planning.

Key Position Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement a compelling and forward-looking strategic vision for Volunteer Hampton Roads in collaboration with the Board of Directors, staff, and key stakeholders.
- Lead the organization in identifying and responding to emerging trends, needs, and opportunities in volunteerism, corporate social responsibility, and the local nonprofit sector.
Organizational Management:
- Provide effective leadership to the organization's staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Oversee the development and implementation of programs and initiatives that align with the organization's mission and goals.
- Oversee and manage the financial aspects of the organization, including budgeting and audit processes. Maintain and optimize a growing annual budget, ensuring financial stability and accountability.
Fundraising and Resource Development:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including grants, multi-year gifts, fees for service and renewal contributions.
- Cultivate relationships with donors and all stakeholders, diversifying revenue streams to ensure the financial sustainability of the organization.
Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and government entities to enhance Volunteer Hampton Roads' impact and reach.
- Represent the organization at community events, forums, and public speaking engagements to raise awareness and support.
Board Relations:
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop policies, set organizational goals, and ensure effective governance.
- Provide regular and transparent communication to the Board on the organization's progress, challenges, and opportunities.

Candidate Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience at the executive level, preferably in a nonprofit or community-focused organization.
- Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to translate vision into action.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, including securing grants, cultivating corporate donors, and implementing innovative fundraising strategies.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of volunteerism, corporate social responsibility, and the nonprofit sector.
