About

Operation Vets With Nets is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in 2021 by Rich Segarra, inspired by the therapeutic benefits of fishing. The organization is dedicated to providing all-expense-paid freshwater fishing adventures, focusing on Catfish and Striper fishing, for disabled active military personnel, retired service members, and veterans. These fishing experiences are designed to promote both physical and emotional rehabilitation, fostering a sense of community and healing through outdoor activities.

  • Mission: To support the rehabilitation and well-being of veterans through therapeutic fishing adventures, creating opportunities for relaxation, camaraderie, and emotional healing.
  • Impact: Since its inception, Operation Vets With Nets has helped over 1,500 veterans, including wheelchair-bound individuals and those with various disabilities, access outdoor fishing activities. The organization initially supported 160 veterans in 2021 and has seen significant growth in its outreach since then.
  • Geographic Reach: The organization operates across the Northeast, Midwest, South, and West regions of the United States, with affiliate chapters in Ohio and Nebraska.
  • Activities: The fishing trips are tailored to accommodate veterans with disabilities, ensuring accessibility and comfort for all participants. The organization emphasizes creating a supportive and inclusive environment.
